Thanks to the support of our friends at Thebe, we were able to grant a wish that came in to us from Deborah Magrath. Her wish was to offer some assistance to the Rape Crisis Cape Town Centre – based in Observatory. This organisations offers trauma counselling and legal advice & assistance to the victims of rape. The sad statistics are that there are 27 victims of rape in the Western Cape alone, every day. Many of these assaults will not be reported, with even less resulting in a court case and conviction.
Rape Crisis runs a 24hour call centre from their offices and also offers support to the victims of rape in hospitals, clinics and police stations in the form of immediate trauma counselling and dropping off care packs. We were able to contribute sanitary towels, washcloths, wet-wipes and soap to be included in the packs.
We commend Rape Crisis Cape Town for the amazing work they do and their continued dedication to helping those in their darkest hour of need.
